What Are Adenoids?

Often when a person has trouble breathing through their nose, it is due to swelling of their tonsils or adenoids.

The Tonsils are at the back of your throat

Because children’s immune systems are not as well developed as adults, they will often get swollen Tonsils and Adenoids when exposed to allergins like pollen or animal hair. Swollen Tonsils and Adenoids can be a problem in children due to the blockage of their airway.

The Adnoids are in the Nasopharynx between the back of the nasal sinus and the throat.

Blockage of your childs airway can lead to many problems such as Ear Infections, Throat Infections, Daytime Sleepiness (poor school performance), ADD and ADHD, Acid Reflux, Vocal Chord Infections/Irritations, Bronchitis and more.

Adenoids are studied at Dr. Tamura's office

Adenoid problems in children

Below is an informative video on what the Adenoids are, and why sometimes, their removal can help your child breath better by opening their airway which can help to decrease symptoms of allergies and stuffed noses, and may decrease snoring or sleep apnea.

Dr. Tamura can evaluate adults and children to see if their Tonsils or Adenoids may be contributing to
an Airway Obstruction.

If this is the case, a referal to an ENT may be necessary. Dr. Tamura has worked very closely with a group of ENT’s who are some of the best in all of Southern California.
